A Brief Description of Atlantic City Beach in New Jersey

For those of you who have never been to Atlantic City, here is a quick description of the town. It's a wonderful place to relax, play in the waves, and stroll the boardwalk. You may also want to see the Absecon Lighthouse, which was first lit in 1857. It is the tallest lighthouse in the state and the third tallest in the United States. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933.

This small resort town in New Jersey has two distinct aspects that make it stand out. Its upscale shopping malls and fine dining are the perfect complements to its sandy beach. While many people flock to the Atlantic City boardwalk, the town also offers many other attractions, including Asbury Park Beach. A mile long stretch of sand, a popular boardwalk, and good surf are the highlights of Asbury Park Beach.

The city was once segregated, but it was still largely white-dominated and white middle-class ideas of race were still the norm. During the heyday, black people played an important role in the tourism industry, bringing minstrel shows to the Steel Pier. During this time, rolling-chair operators hired black men to push white people along the Boardwalk. Those who wanted to enjoy the nightlife could head to Kentucky Avenue, where the racial divide was less stark.

While the beach itself is free to visit, there are several options for accommodations. One of the most upscale hotels in the city is the Caesars Atlantic City hotel, which opened in 2003. The Caesars hotel offers world-class accommodations, restaurants, and gaming. All rooms are available for rent, from small economy rooms to presidential suites. And, if you're looking for the perfect beach getaway, the boardwalk is just a few blocks away from the Caesars.

In addition to the casino and gambling establishments, the beach has an eclectic cultural heritage. In the early 20th century, the town was known as "Nation's Playground" and attracted more tourists than New York and Philadelphia combined. These people came to the city for health reasons, but also to party and be seen. During the World War II, the town was the base of operations for military recruits, and many wounded soldiers were treated here.

Several local physicians and businessmen had envisioned a resort along the shoreline, but they were unsure of how to make it a reality. Eventually, Atlantic City's first residents moved to the island as a summer home. They were successful in building a railroad and even secured a charter for the Camden-Atlantic railway. Despite their reservations, the city's economic growth continued to decline. By the late 1800s, the population had dwindled to fifty thousand residents, and the seaside town was no longer a popular vacation destination.

But with the casinos, Atlantic City lost a substantial part of its population and its housing stock. It was once home to fifteen movie houses, but no supermarket was in place in 1988. In ten years, four hundred businesses and 250 restaurants closed. The city's once-hip Main Street was transformed into a drab area. In the aftermath of the Resorts' arrival, unemployment increased and crime and homelessness increased, while heroin use and infant mortality spiked.

There are many beaches and boardwalks in Atlantic City, but most of them are family-friendly. Brigantine Beach is another popular place to spend the weekend, and if you're looking for a more laid-back beach experience, then Brigantine is your place to be. There are no boardwalks on the Brigantine beach, but you can get there by car. If you're not fond of boardwalks, there's Brigantine Beach, which is 12 minutes away.

When gambling became legal in Atlantic City in 1976, there were many critics of the decision. Many worried that it would increase crime and corrupt the community. Proponents of gambling, however, had a more positive message and won the statewide referendum. Two years later, the first gambling casino opened on the Boardwalk. However, while the first casino opened, the city's middle-class residents found the establishments too expensive to spend a night. While the casino opened in 1978, it still remained a blighted area.
